What's really going on in BC with the killing of the deer
It's sad and it's disgusting but the province of our "Supernatural BC" is allowing several small towns to kill hundreds of urban deer. Cranbrook and Kimberley sneakily passed a resolution through their councils as quickly as possible after so-called months of deliberation and discussion, but the facts show that there was hardly any discussion at all about alternatives other than killing the deer. Both Cranbrook and Kimberley have started their killing but now Invermere is about to kill 100. Ironically the town councils appointed a "deer committee" where now the contractors who are actually killing the deer and obviously profiting by it, are the former heads of these committees. (except Invermere apparently?) Co-incidence - hmmm I think not!
How are they killing the deer? It is not pretty or "humane" - first they catch deer in traps (and the animals could be trapped and struggling there up to 14 hours) then wrestle them to the ground and in a crude barbaric way insert a bolt to the brain which may or may not work the first time so the deer could suffer immensely. Isn't this a lovely story to tell your grandchildren or children on how these towns "managed the deer".
The worst part of this is it is totally unnecessary - there are many alternatives that will actually work. Culls never work and this has been proven over and over again. That is why when after one cull takes place, another will inevitably occur again in the future. (just like one big continuous haircut)
There will be lots of information on this blog about alternatives and what can be done. If you want more information join the many facebook pages listed here or email at - savethebcdeer@yahoo.ca
